HEART release new album and embark on UK tour
Rock legends HEART are set to release their sixteenth album Beautiful Broken on 8 July and are heading to the UK next week for what promises to be a series of four tremendous live shows.
Beautiful Broken is a mixture of the old and the new. Seven of the songs are reworkings of tracks from Heart’s back catalogue which founding members Ann and Nancy Wilson wanted another shot at. Songs like City’s Burning, Down on Me and Sweet Darlin’ have always been live favourites, but they kinda fell through the cracks as far as wider audiences were concerned. This was most likely due to where commercial radio was at the time when the songs were originally recorded, since that pretty much determined the way they were produced. Or over-produced. Eighties era over-editing production curse, anyone?
“I felt these songs were poetic pieces that were lost in translation with the sounds of the eighties, which was harder and more digital. We wanted to drape them in velvet, and make them shine.” Nancy Wilson
One potential highlight of the album is it’s title track. Beautiful Broken was a bonus song on Fanatic, HEART’s last album. But this version is essentially an entirely new song with vocals and some lyrics added by Metallica’s James Hetfield. “It blows the previous version out of the water,” says Nancy. “James just took the song on, and what he added was perfect with a bite and a rock accent.”
Suffice to say we hope we can get our hands of a copy of Beautiful Broken to bring you a review.
HEART’s tour opens at The Royal Opera House in London with what promises to be an awesome show with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, before they head off to Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham. I think it’s safe to say that tickets for all four shows may well be kinda scarce, so follow the link at the bottom of the page to check availability. Hopefully decibelROGUE will be at the Glasgow show to bring you a full review and gallery.
