Lionize: New EP and UK Tour

US rockers Lionize have announced the release of a new EP, The Voyage, on 13 May and are back in the UK for a headline tour this month. Both of these bits of news make decibelROGUE very happy indeed.

I first came across Lionize when they supported Clutch in Glasgow a couple of years ago. And as introductions go, they made a brilliant first impression. So much so that when I got home from the show later that night, my gig photographs hadn’t even finished downloading before I had already visited iTunes to buy their (then) recently released album, Jetpack Sountrack and had it blasting out the stereo. It’s been a constant fixture on my iPod ever since.

And now, a couple of years later, Lionize are celebrating their 10th anniversary by releasing a series of EP’s which themselves will lead up to the release of their next full-length album. The Voyage sees Lionize draw on influences as varied as Bad Brains, Deep Purple, Parliament and Funkadelic, and sees the band chart new musical territory. From the infectious melodies of the opener ‘Anacostia’, to the huge tectonic riffs of ‘Take It To The Road’ and the classic groove-oriented ‘Cold Nelson’, this record has a soundscape that Lionize promise will leave fans chomping at the bit for the next instalment.
