The 2017 outdoor music festival season is approaching fast, and what can I tell you, BRING IT ON! With more music festivals and outdoor gigs being staged throughout the central belt of Scotland than ever before, there has never been a better time to go out and enjoy live music. Thing is, we look forward to summer for so long each year that when it eventually does arrive, it seems to pass in a blink, then the clocks are going back an hour and we’re looking out the winter woolies again…
But before the shorts and sunscreen are packed away for another year, there is one final music festival which helps ensure that the summer goes out with a proper bang. Midstock is an independent bespoke music festival set in the stunning grounds of Dalkeith Country Park, and takes place on Friday 1 (evening only) and Saturday 2 September. The festival was originally started to provide the people of the Lothians with a great music event on their doorsteps. In the last couple of years or so however, word seems to have spread, and Midstock’s eclectic mix of artists and bands now attracts visitors from all over the country.

Feeder
Headlined by The Time Frequency on day one and Feeder on day two, 2017’s lineup has something for everyone. There’s also a distinct party vibe running throughout the lineup with artists such as Hot Dub Time Machine, Nipples of Venus and Scottish pop legends Showaddywaddy which underpins the family friendly nature of the festival.
One of the things I’ve come to love about Midstock is that there’s always a band somewhere in the lineup that from a music history point of view really jumps out at you. For me this year, that band has to be The Skids. Recently reformed with original members Richard Jobson, Bill Simpson and Mike Baillie and joined by Big Country guitarists Bruce and Jamie Watson, the band are currently embarked on their 40th anniversary tour. It’s a fantastic opportunity for fans of the band to see iconic songs such as Into The Valley played live once more.
The show will be hosted by radio star Arlene Stuart (Forth One) who will be joined by wrestler and TV personality, Grado. And festival goers can expect the usual funfair attractions, face painting, food stalls and much more.
So, if you’re within striking distance of Dalkeith on 1 and 2 September and would like to see out the summer in style, grab yourself a ticket for Midstock. We’ll see you there!
